is it late to start a career in IT security field ?

Q. i'm a 31 years old and i have a good background and knowledge in computer and OS like gno linux also played a little with freebsd , i have a high school degere
and i will complate my BS in ICT after 3 or 4 years , which certification should i aim for durring the 3 coming months ? cissco security or others ?

A. Security + will provide you with a solid foundation to start off with.

If you can lab and tinker around with some IDS and IPS software/hardware , firewalls..etc that would be great.

CISSP is the big dog of security certification.

I would say polish off your networking side. CCNA security. MCSE security..etc Get that security +...once you have a handle on that CISSP is an excellent cert to attain but it's no easy task plus you have to either go to a training camp for it or study your butt off alone...even then if you pass you need a sponser (a person who is already CISSP) to sponser you.

security is mostly theory I feel. There is really limited hardware software that you need to know actually. Everything else is updates, monitoring big time and maintenance.....all the rest is policies, procedures, restrictions, physical security..etc,etc.

What kind of job can I get with an CompTIA A+ Cert?
Q. I'm going to be getting my A+ very soon. I don't have any other certs. I was wondering what kind of entry level position I could get with just this cert, or do I need more then this one?

A. CompTIA serves the IT industry as the world's largest developer of vendor-neutral IT certification exams. Since establishing the certification program in 1993, more than one million CompTIA certifications have been earned worldwide. Currently, CompTIA offers certifications in PC hardware, networking, servers, e-Business, convergence, project management, training, Linux, security, digital home technology, document imaging and RFID.
CompTIA certification programs receive worldwide use and recognition. When developing an exam, CompTIA engages international focus groups and recruits subject matter experts from around the world to define programs, write, review and participate in beta exams. CompTIA certifications are built with the knowledge of experts and industry leaders from the public and private sectors, including training, academia and the government.
CompTIAâs strength in certification is a result of the support it receives from the industry. Businesses have come to trust and depend on CompTIA standards to provide a reliable predictor of employee success. Many companies with their own certification programs still use CompTIA certifications as prerequisites to validate foundation-level skill sets.

If I want to start programming using Java to create desktop programs, what version of Java should I download?
Q. What version of Java should I download from www.java.sun.com if I wish to start developing simple applications for the desktop (not web applications)?

A. First, the ONLY reason you should consider using Java is if your planned application is supposed to work on more than one platform (Windows, Linux, Mac, etc.) If your application is targeted at a specific platform, use the language that you know best that will work on that platform. Java is not the best foundation upon which to build desktop applications. It works, but there are others that do it much better and were built for it.

Now, having said that, when you want to start developing a new piece of software, you should always get the latest version of the development tools that you can. This applies regardless of which platform you are developing for.
